pimping is in, gayness is out

I wasn’t going to start my blog by bitching but the recent Hollywood events have given me no choice.

Brokeback Mountain didn’t win the Oscar for Best Motion Picture. Instead it went to Crash which was, well, a major crash. It is basically the same old movie about fate and our racial differences. Yawn…and, oh yes, it is also about life in Los Angeles which as we all know it is the epicenter of the world where life and death decisions that affect the fate of humanity are made every day (if you really want to see a good movie where cars, people’s lives, and conflict mesh in a pile up, rent Amores Perros).

It’s not that Crash is an unwatchable piece of celluloid turd by itself (although Wedding Crashers drew more emotion out of me). But next to the other Best Picture contenders, by golly, it was. So, if you don’t think that this proves how fucked up the political inner machinations of Hollywood are, then, to quote that small rabid mammal (i.e. Tom Cruise), my dear “you’re just glib.”

Brokeback Mountain couldn’t win because in this day and age of extreme right wing conservatism and out of touch Christian marketing, the message of love between anything else than a woman and a man, gets lost in the overcrowded psyche of my narrow minded peers. As further proof, I made add that though I didn’t watch Syrianna, I knew George Clooney would win Best Actor because this movie deals with the flavor of the last 4 years which is terrorism.

On the other hand, it was a relief to see that the Best Song award went to “It’s Hard out There for a Pimp” which keeps the whole equal sexuality thing in check.

After watching this year’s awards and the ridiculously overpriced talentless “acting” posse, I can only conclude that it’s hard out there for a fan…of good and inspiring cinema that is. Sigh.

Note to self: move all foreign films to the top of my Netflix queue and no more spending $10+ at the theater ’cause it simply is not worth it.

MAY’07 SEXY UPDATE: I have since rented Crash. Yes, yes, I wrote a review without actually seeing the movie. Gasp! In any case, now that I can actually compare both movies I have to say that neither should have won the stupid Oscar. Everything is race, race or gay, gay. Yawn. Why don’t they make a movie about those nice white folks? Nobody cares :-(
